Peter's Visitor BookAs much as I love PP, to my ears John Perry's guitar was just as important to the OO sound. He played with a melancholic urgency that I hear matched only by Richard Thompson, Jeffrey Lee Pierce, Richard Lloyd and Neil Young. I would really appreciate any leads on how to contact him or at least track down any more of his work. My own band, Static Cling, covers the OO song, "From Here To Eternity", tho have not recorded it, and I like to think my own playing is, at least stylistically, similar. If any of you are curious please check our website... www.geocities.com/staticclingband thanks, kim Kim Draheim <ked0917@aol.com> Seneca Falls, NY USA - Great to hear that John Perry is in the news again and playing gigs in the UK. Get up north John, please. Alan Mair is busy. Peter Perret, more active than recent. Mike Kellie, not sure. Anyway they have brought me so much enjoyment that I just wanted to wish them all well. Peter is one of those rare artists that's truly genious. Your music means so much to me I won't even try to express it. Hope you're happy with whatever you're doing. Best of regards. Marcus Stockholm, Sweden - John Perry it seems is playing at a gig tomorrow night in London at the Social with a singer called Freddie Stevenson. I searched on Google after a mate had said he crashed a private party where they were playing last month. Anyone else heard anything about this? andypandy London, UK - For those who missed Peter's performance with the Libertines, a new album has the liove version of Another Girl, Another Planet on it. Get it here: http://www.play.com/play247.asp?searchtype=allproducts&searchstring=bring+your+own&page=search Mart <tigermothmart@gmail.com> London, - I saw the Only Ones in 1978/79 at the old Arcadia Ballroom (Cork Ireland). A fantastic experience. Supported on their second visit by a youthful U2! Bought all the albums first time round and now rediscovering their beauty (currently cannot get "You've Got to Pay" out of my head. Hard to believe that the man who by reputation had thousands of unreleased songs in his possession has so little to say for himself these days. Frank Carey <facarey@supanet.com> Dundee, Scotland - This was a great site. I needed to find something for my Homework (Martin) and This site helped me out so much! Thanx alot!!!! Here are some more: City of fun - The Celibate Rifles and of course AGAP - John Hiatt, The Nutley Brass, The Mighty Lemondrops, REM, The Cure, The Lightning Seeds, Paul Westerberg, London Punkharmonic Orchestra, Lower East Side Stitches, American Ruse steveritt Berlin, - My old band The dB's were fortunate enough to open for the Only Ones at Hurrah in NYC in the early 1980's. It was a pleasure, as we were all already big fans (even some old Spooky Tooth fans in the midst!) Eventually, we ended up covering "Lovers of Today", a song that's hard to get out of one's mind even today. Hope Peter is doing okay, as with the other members of this wonderful band. Your website is superb. Best of luck. Peter Holsapple <halfpear@hotmail.com> Arabi, LA USA - Well said Mart. Peter has so many great songs. What gems remain unrecorded? It is not too late. The Libertines got him back on stage - to obvious widespread adulation and astonishment. This is proof of his incredible support from todays most exiciting musicians, and he has never been so relevant. I too saw and met Peter at Only Ones and The One gigs. Everyone who has ever seen him and his bands has taken something special away. Peter. Please give us some more. It won't hurt. You might even enjoy it. gary robins <garychristopherrobins@yahoo.co.uk> - Folks, I just have to get this off my chest - i'm fucking ANGRY & SOOOO disappointed that nothing PP-wise is happening. I was there in the mid-90's comeback years. Saw The One 4 nights running & LOVED the new songs (Daughter & Company Of Strangers....oh, my). I waited, we ALL waited. Then....silence. Now has NEVER been a better time to be a cult artist & make a rerasonable living from it. You can record, edit, press & promote all for minimal expense, & from the comfort of your living room. But the spirit seems dead. Peter, I hate to use a quote from such a loathsome company, but, pleeeease, "just do it"! My concluding thought is sadly, no more optimistic. Am I the only one who is coming to accept that Peter will never record again & will finally bow out with a 6-line paragraph in Mojo's obituary column? Oh, prove me wrong. Mart. ps. Do we have any L.A. or San Francisco OO fans? - Will be over your way in Sept / Oct & it would be nice to talk music. Mart <m.henley@virgin.net> Market Harborough, Leics England - Could anyone here tell me if there is an Only Ones song with the line "I felt so lonely when my Samoyed died" in it? And, if there is, where can I get it? Robin <robinsid@hotmail.com> - Another cover of the Only Ones was by Breathless "Flowers Die" Mixed by John Perry. Think he also played a bit on ot too. JJ - Here are some excellent links to Only Ones album reviews. The first covers the main albums (very intersteting reading) and the second looks at Remains. http://www.geocities.com/jackfeeny/only.htm http://www.cogsci.uiuc.edu/~daniel/oo.htm Miz USA - What's Andy Blade up to these days, anyone know? doofus <bert_o@excite.com> - Peter, we all hope you're well.
