After moving to London, Miyuki met up with former Only Ones leader Peter Perrett and they started working together on some of Peter's songs. It was decided to put a band together and after an ad in Melody Maker and several weeks of try-outs, Richard Vernon on bass, Steve Hands on drums and Jay Price on guitar joined Pete and Miyuki in The One.
A short tour of The Netherlands followed by a storming show at The Underworld in Camden Town held out the promise of a triumphant return for Pete. The band put out Cultured Palate, an EP single on the Dwarf label The Melody Maker made it single of the week. (You can listen to the EP HERE)
The band was signed by Demon Records and continued to gig regularly not only on the UK and Holland but also in Japan. Work progressed on the first album for Demon, the band was booked for the Phoenix Festival and TV shows.
The album Woke Up Sticky was critically acclaimed, Phoenix was a triumph and all seemed bright for the future, but it was not to be, Peter began to retreat into his own world and the increasing tensions caused the band to fall apart. A further album "Live" was released after the band split. Both "Cultured Palate" and "Live" are available as downloads from the Sierra Bravo Store |
