New York

Aldous Eveleigh's exhibition of dubbed post cards of NY were due to be shown in London over 4 floors of an 18th Century town house in Soho's Golden sq at the end of Sept 2001.Charlie Paul's 35 mm movie of AE painting these cards was to have had its premier there as well on the same night.

On the morning of Sept 11 the invitations (see above) started to arrive through the mail.

For the following few days the gallery was busy with calls from people excited by the uncanny coincidence. Curiously, the cards, although painted before the event, seemed to people seeing them afterwards as though the artist must have known what was going to happen. Some found the the cards distressing in view of what had occurred to the World Trade Centre.

The gallery took fright and cancelled the event, terrified of causing offence.

After a while people could look at the movie again and find themselves intrigued and fascinated by the apparent prescience of the sequence of images.

Edelweiss Pirates

Visualisations for the feature-length film directed by Niko von Glasow Brücher

Written by Kirsten von Glasow & Niko von Glasow-Brücher.

To be turned into a comic strip story drawn by Aldous Eveleigh...started 29 July 1999

This film is about teenage rebels in Nazi Germany. It is a true story about ten teenagers and a twenty-three year-old man who were hanged in 1944 for plotting to blow up the gestapo headquarters in cologne.

It is little-known that, throughout the second world-war, a thorn in the flesh of the Hitler Youth was the active resistance of a few young people to the fanatical regimentation of the Nazis. They were to be found over all Germany, kids below conscription-age, who ganged-together to lay ambush to Hitler Youth groups;carrying out attacks on summer camps and other such acts of rebellion. these groups had various names for themselves, the one used the most was "edelweiss pirates".

The children in this story raise the level of their rebellion from disruption and minor acts of sabotage to a more deadly plane when they prepare to attack and blow up gestapo headquarters! This escalation happens when the young edelweiss pirates come under the influence of an older, 23 year old, escaped, gestapo prisoner and bomb disposal expert, Hans Steinbruck. Hans is hell-bent on taking revenge on the gestapo for what they have done to him.

He convinces the youngsters of his plan and they stockpile dynamite and guns that they steal from the army in his girlfriend's cellar...

Aldous Eveleigh has plotted and drawn in rough, the first ten minutes, of the movie which was delivered on 4. August 1999, to:

Palladio film GmbH & co. KG,
Rathenauplatz 7,
50674 Koln,
